How to find your ring size at home
Every VIBHINI ring is made in US size 6.5 unless you ask for another size, which we make on request and quote separately. Either way, it is worth knowing your size before you order. You can measure at home in two minutes, and we check your answer before anything is made.
In short
Measure in millimetres. Wrap a 5 mm strip of paper round the base of your finger, mark the overlap and measure it: that is your circumference (our standard US 6.5 is 53.1 mm). Or measure across the inside of a ring that fits. Measure in the evening when your hands are warm, send us the figure, and we confirm the size before making. Rings are made in US 6.5; any other size is made on request and quoted separately.
The safest unit is millimetres
India, the UK and the US all number ring sizes differently, and the conversion charts online disagree with one another. Millimetres don't. Measure in millimetres, send us the figure, and we will convert it and confirm it with you.
Method 1: a strip of paper
- Cut a strip of paper about 5 mm wide and 100 mm long. Paper, not string: string stretches.
- Wrap it around the base of the finger, snug but not tight. It has to pass over the knuckle, so test that.
- Mark where the strip overlaps, unwrap it, and measure to the mark with a ruler.
That measurement is the circumference in millimetres, and it is the number to send us. If you want the inside diameter as well, divide it by 3.14.
Method 2: a ring you already wear
If you have a ring that fits the right finger, measure straight across the inside of the band with a ruler, at its widest point. That is the inside diameter in millimetres. Most women's rings fall between about 15 and 18 mm, and most men's between about 18 and 21 mm.
Measure the ring, not the finger, and tell us which finger it is worn on.
The chart
Our rings are made in US 6.5, and the prices you see are for that size. Any other size, half sizes included, is made on request and quoted separately. Measure in millimetres and find yourself here.
| US size | Inside diameter | Inside circumference |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 15.70 mm | 49.3 mm |
| 5.5 | 16.10 mm | 50.6 mm |
| 6 | 16.51 mm | 51.9 mm |
| 6.5 | 16.92 mm | 53.1 mm |
| 7 | 17.32 mm | 54.4 mm |
| 7.5 | 17.73 mm | 55.7 mm |
| 8 | 18.14 mm | 57.0 mm |
| 8.5 | 18.54 mm | 58.3 mm |
| 9 | 18.95 mm | 59.5 mm |
Between two rows, take the larger. If you need a size outside this range, ask us — it is usually possible, and we would rather make it right than have you squeeze into the wrong one.
Four things that change the answer
- Time of day. Fingers are smallest in the morning and largest in the evening and in heat. Measure at the end of the day, when your hands are warm.
- The knuckle. If your knuckle is much wider than the base of your finger, size to slide over the knuckle and tell us. A slightly snugger fit at the base stops the ring spinning.
- Band width. A wide band feels tighter than a narrow one at the same size. Over about 6 mm wide, go up by roughly half a size.
- Which hand. The dominant hand is usually very slightly larger.
Buying as a surprise
Borrow a ring they already wear on the right finger and measure its inside diameter. If you can't, tell us what you know — their build, whether their hands are slim, any ring you have seen them wear — and we will suggest a size to start from. Say in your message that it is a surprise, and we will keep it that way.
We confirm before we make
Nothing is cast until we have written to you with the size we have understood and you have agreed it. If you are torn between two, tell us both and we will talk it through.
If it still isn't right
Resizing later is free while you own the piece, within one size of the size we made it, and you pay only the postage. Beyond one size it becomes a paid alteration. Some rings cannot be resized at all, though: an eternity band set with stones the whole way round has no plain section to cut and rejoin. The full position is in Resizing & Care, and it is a good reason to take the extra minute now.
Quick answers
- What if I measure between two sizes?
- Send both figures. We will advise, and usually go up.
- Does another size cost more?
- The prices shown are for US 6.5. Any other size is made on request and quoted separately, because it takes a different amount of metal.
- Can you make half sizes?
- Yes, on request, quoted separately.
- How do I convert Indian, UK and US sizes?
- Send the millimetres and we will do it. The charts disagree with each other, so we work from the measurement.
- Can it be resized after delivery?
- Usually, and free within one size while you own it; you pay the postage. Full eternity bands usually cannot.
